Pre-pasteurized mushroom casing mixture in a gusseted autoclave bag with filter patch. Specifically formulated for mushroom cultivation, this product is to be used in conjunction with our pre-pasteurized mushroom compost
. The Gourmet Mushroom Supply casing mix is a non-nutritious blend of four choice ingredients: organic peat moss, coarse vermiculite, hydrated lime (for pH adjustment), and organic powdered gypsum (supplementing the mix with calcium and sulfur—essential elements for fruit body formation).
Although a casing layer is not required for the cultivation of most mushroom strains (unless fruiting directly from colonized grain, in which case, it is
required), it can be beneficial to the life-cycle of bulk substrates
. A casing layer provides mushroom mycelium with an optimal micro-climate which promotes pinning and also serves as a contamination barrier to the cased substrate. These combined effects promote the longevity of the substrate which can lead to additional flushes and higher yields.
The casing mixture should be applied in a thin layer to the top of a block of fully colonized bulk substrate, like our pre-pasteurized mushroom compost
Gourmet Mushroom Supply casing mixture comes pre-pasteurized at an optimal moisture level, making it ready to use right out of the bag. All casing material is adjusted to the ideal pH of 7.5 before it is shipped. This product comes heat-sealed in sterile, filter-patch mycobags and can be stored at room temperature for up to 21 days. If more time is needed, it can be stored in the freezer and dethawed before use. All casing orders over 1 lb. come separated in 5 lb. bags.
Made to order, usually ships within 2 business days.
